Chinese Traditional Art On Feminine Paper Sculptures

Traditions and modernization have had their run ins time to time in the society. But this Chinese artist have found a way to present both in a hybrid manner. Meet Peng Wei, a Chinese artist behind this art work. She has presented traditional art in a modern way of presentation, more likely a feminine representation of the traditional Chinese art.

The canvas for the art of this artist is a sculpture of a female torso. This sculpture is made out of mainly paper and then cotton. The artist try to bring out the female perspective of those traditional art and their stories. She has chosen art that include stories like; ‘Paragons of Feminine Virtue’ and ‘Strange Tales from the Chinese Studio’. These stories from the past had more of a male perspective of stories as most of the traditional art and literature.

But she has created the female gaze of the art and its stories by painting it on a female torso sculpture. This is a remarkable form of art she practices.
