Time continues to unravel and it waits for no one. As we live in this forever-moving timeline, our memory registers what happened before and that is how history first came into existence. People started to document what was known and what was present in those respective ages, cave & stone inscriptions, parchments, books, and finally the modern digital age. This age is capable of documenting and storing information more than thousands of times of the amount history has ever recorded until now. The invention of one thing contributed heavily to this massive development of documentation, and that one thing is; photography.
Photographs have the ability to freeze a moment on a digital/physical form. This allows us to take snapshots and keep these memories with us forever without fading away as our memories do. As much as we document our private lives on photographs, we can see how society has changed with time if we compared photos from the past against photos from the present day. We would not have been able to do this if photography was not invented. Because no matter how much detail that writing gives us, they are not visually accurate in everyone’s mind.
Since humans are a very curious type of animal, people try to explore how things and places looked like in the past in contrast to what they see today. So, a subreddit was created by Reddit users to shared their stories and comparisons for everyone who is interested to see. Check out r/OldPhotosInRealLife. A lot of people have gathered on this subreddit to share and read stories that each other posts.
