I photographed these animals using my father’s 1960s Japanese film camera.

I grew up in the Italian countryside, surrounded by animals, and when I discovered my father’s camera in a cupboard (a Japanese 35 mm Miranda from the 1960s), I was immediately enthralled by it and decided to spend my time photographing dogs, cats, horses, and birds I’d come across while walking in the countryside.

My first project, The Animals, was published by Dewi Lewis in 2008. I printed my images in my bathroom as a darkroom.
