The night sky is an amazing thing to explore. After centuries and millennia, we are still staring at the sky, mesmerized by just what we can see from the surface of the Earth. There is so much to explore, even though there are things that we cannot see with our naked eyes, modern technology assists us to make it possible.
Say hello to Derek Culver, a skillful photographer who has done a mind blowing photoshoot of the night sky capturing many celestial objects. The Vermillion Hills in Arizona is a magical place for night sky photography. With the proper gear along with the required settings on them, the surroundings appear to transform into a totally different place. The colors, the hues and all the incredible details make it look as if it is another world.
Culver explains to My Modern Met that he spent a lot of time capturing long exposure shots that were much more complicated than the normal long exposure shots that are usually taken. He camped up in a place in the desert called the ‘White Pocket’, it is a very dark place with a perfect view for night sky photography.
After collecting the pictures on his camera, Culver heads home to render them using a software called ‘Pixinsight’, the specialty about that software is that his shots are too complicated for other software to render. This is the software which NASA uses to render the images sent by satellites and high powered telescopes out in deep space to capture the maximum detail.
Culver’s pictures are so vibrant and amazing that people just marvel at them on his Instagram account.
